Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy – Level 1 Diploma

About The Course

This course will provide you with an introduction to the hair and beauty industry, working in our professional salons and developing communication and customer care skills.

You will develop essential transferable skills such as health and safety, as well as begin to develop specialist hairdressing and beauty therapy technical knowledge such as assisting with skin and hand care, reception duties and setting and dressing hair. These skills will help you provide a stepping stone to undertake further training at Level 2, specialising in either hairdressing or beauty therapy.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

Topics covered can include:

  • Consulting clients
  • Styling and finishing
  • Setting and dressing
  • Assisting with hair colouring
  • Blow drying
  • Assisting with reception duties
  • Shampooing and conditioning
  • Teamwork

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You do not need to have any previous qualifications.

All applicants must have an initial assessment and interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

You will be assessed through a portfolio of evidence, collected from written assessments, presentations, witness statements and practice observation.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

School Leavers

If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, it will be free. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. Adults

Entry Level, Level 1, Level 2
If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, your course may be free, depending on your circumstances. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?

Although the progression route to Level 2 is not automatic, following successful completion of this course you may progress onto:Apprenticeships:

Level 2 hairdressing

Level 2 Beauty Full time:

Level 2 hairdressing

Level 2 Beauty Therapy

Level 2 Nail Technology

Level 2 Barbering

Employment: You may go straight into a salon as a salon assistant/junior. The course also provides skills transferable to other subject areas.

APPLICATION PROCESS

WHEN SHOULD I APPLY?
We recommend you apply at least three months before the programme starts to guarantee your place. The application form will take approximately 15 to 30 minutes to complete.

WHEN WILL I HEAR BACK FROM YOU?
We’ll acknowledge receipt of your application by email within 48 hours, if it’s received during normal working hours (Mon-Fri – 09:00-18:00 GMT). We will review and respond to your application within two working days. We do this in order of receipt and acceptance is not automatic.

CAN I RESERVE A PLACE?

WHAT ARE YOUR LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS?
The programme is taught in English, so a good working knowledge of the language is essential. If English is not your first language, we may ask you for evidence of your proficiency.
