About The Course

This initial teacher training qualification gives you an insight into the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training, how to plan and deliver inclusive teaching sessions and how to assess and give constructive feedback. You will gain the knowledge and skills needed to progress as a teacher or trainer in the further education and skills sector.

This course is offered as blended learning, a mixture of classroom and online learning.

Topics covered can include:

  • The roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
  • Inclusive teaching and learning approaches
  • Assessment of learners
  • Facilitating learning and development for individuals
  • Facilitating learning and development in groups
  • Understanding principles and practices of assessment

You will need to have achieved a qualification and/or have experience in the subject area you wish to teach, at the appropriate level. In addition, you will need literacy at the appropriate level, including the ability to read and interpret written tasks, and organise written information clearly and coherently.

All applicants must have an initial assessment and interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

There are three units that are divided into sections and assessed by means of assignments, one of which is a 20-minute micro-teaching session. Candidates who successfully complete this qualification will have a fundamental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer in relation to legislation, equality, diversity, inclusivity and meeting the needs of learners. They will be able to sequence learning, plan and deliver sessions, using appropriate resources and teaching methods. They will also be able to identify the characteristics of effective assessment and feedback.

Adults

Entry Level, Level 1, Level 2
If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, your course may be free, depending on your circumstances. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. Progress routes include the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (CET), the Level 3 Award in Assessment and Quality Assurance and Level 5 Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults).

WHEN SHOULD I APPLY?
We recommend you apply at least three months before the programme starts to guarantee your place. The application form will take approximately 15 to 30 minutes to complete.

WHEN WILL I HEAR BACK FROM YOU?
We’ll acknowledge receipt of your application by email within 48 hours, if it’s received during normal working hours (Mon-Fri – 09:00-18:00 GMT). We will review and respond to your application within two working days. We do this in order of receipt and acceptance is not automatic.

CAN I RESERVE A PLACE?

WHAT ARE YOUR LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS?
The programme is taught in English, so a good working knowledge of the language is essential. If English is not your first language, we may ask you for evidence of your proficiency.
