The Level 4 certificate is a teaching qualification, in which you will gain a fundamental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer, planning for inclusive learning, methods in delivering and assessing in education and training, and the use of resources in education and training.

The qualification covers the knowledge and skills required by teachers/trainers in the further education and skills sector. Candidates who successfully complete this qualification will have a fundamental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer in relation to legislation, equality, diversity, inclusivity and meeting the needs of learners. They will be able to use initial and diagnostic assessments and plan and deliver inclusive teaching and learning. They will also be able to assess learning and use appropriate resources to support effective learning. The Level 4 certificate is a teaching qualification, in which you will gain a fundamental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer, planning for inclusive learning, methods in delivering and assessing in education and training, and the use of resources in education and training.

You will need:

  • Candidates should be qualified/ experienced in the subject they intend to teach, have access to 30 teaching practice hours and possess reasonable levels of language, literacy and numeracy
  • All trainee teachers joining this qualification programme should undertake an initial assessment of skills and should record their development needs and agree an action plan to address them
  • Level 3 qualification and/or experience in your specialist subect
  • GCSEs at grade 4 or above in English Language and Maths or Functional Skills in English and Maths at Level 2, or working towards achievement of these IT literacy, equivalent to Level 2
  • All applicants must have an interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them
The qualification will be assessed by a combination of assignments and observation of teaching or training.

The qualification allows candidates to progress into employment as teachers/trainers, as well as to the City & Guilds qualification Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET).

WHEN SHOULD I APPLY?
We recommend you apply at least three months before the programme starts to guarantee your place. The application form will take approximately 15 to 30 minutes to complete.

WHEN WILL I HEAR BACK FROM YOU?
We’ll acknowledge receipt of your application by email within 48 hours, if it’s received during normal working hours (Mon-Fri – 09:00-18:00 GMT). We will review and respond to your application within two working days. We do this in order of receipt and acceptance is not automatic.

CAN I RESERVE A PLACE?

WHAT ARE YOUR LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS?
The programme is taught in English, so a good working knowledge of the language is essential. If English is not your first language, we may ask you for evidence of your proficiency.
