Fine Art – A Level (Eduqas)

About The Course

A Level Fine Art is a creative course that encourages you to develop your skills as a practising artist. You will be introduced to a variety of projects with the intention to build on your artistic skills and develop your use of materials. You will build a portfolio of work as a result of this before consolidating your learning within a personal investigative project and an externally set assignment. The course will also develop your critical understanding of contextual sources to support and develop your visual artwork.

Start Date: 4 September 2023
Attendance: Full Time
Location: London
Suitable for: School Leavers
Duration: 2 Years
Level: Level 3

Topics covered can include:

  • Painting
  • Drawing
  • Textiles
  • 3D Design
  • Sculpture
  • Illustration
  • Printmaking

Learners will need:

  • Three GCSEs at grade 5 or above including English Language, plus two further GCSEs at grade 4 or above including Maths
  • If your English Language GCSE is at grade 5, one of your three GCSEs at grade 5 or above must be a literary subject (e.g. English Literature, History, Business Studies, Sociology, Geography)
  • A reference from your previous school/college

*If you did not study GCSE Art and Design, or a related subject, we will assess your suitability based on a portfolio of work. For help and advice on building your portfolio of work, please click here.

All applicants must have an interview to confirm that A Levels are suitable for them.

Please be aware that as this subject includes coursework, as well as an externally set assignment, you will only be permitted to have a choice of one other subject which includes coursework. Your third subject choice must be an exam-only assessed subject. For example, you would not be permitted to take Fine Art, History and Media as these all include coursework.

Assessment takes place regularly on the course to provide feedback to develop your visual artwork and written components (through one-to-one support and group critiques of work). The course contains two assessed components – a personal investigation portfolio and an externally set assignment.

SCHOOL LEAVERS

If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, it will be free. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as course materials and trips. Many of our students are eligible for financial support when studying at the institute.

A Levels are widely regarded as the standard entry qualification for top universities in the UK, and the rest of the world. Many of our students go onto study for a degree at the university of their choice, with some choosing to progress into apprenticeships or other employment.
