GCSE Mathematics

About The Course

A grade 4 or higher in GCSE Mathematics is a requirement for many higher education courses and careers, including those in science, teaching and nursing. Over the duration of the course, you will be equipped with a solid understanding of fundamental mathematical concepts and principles including number, algebra, geometry, measures, statistics and probability.

The GCSE is graded using the linear 9-1 system, with examinations in June.

The content has been organised into broad topic areas and you will learn the following:

  • Number
  • Statistics
  • Ratio, proportion and rates of change
  • Geometry and measures
  • Probability
  • Algebra

There are two pathways available for this qualification – Foundation Level and Higher Level.
For the Foundation Level, you will need:

  • GCSE Mathematics at grade 2

For the Higher Level, you will need:

  • GCSE Mathematics at grade 3

All applicants must have an assessment and interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

The course is assessed by two written exams, each worth 50% of the final marks – you may use a calculator for one of the exams.

Adults

Entry Level, Level 1, Level 2
If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, your course may be free, depending on your circumstances. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. GCSE Mathematics is necessary for all students wanting to enter higher education. It is also a qualification asked for employers.

WHEN SHOULD I APPLY?
We recommend you apply at least three months before the programme starts to guarantee your place. The application form will take approximately 15 to 30 minutes to complete.

WHEN WILL I HEAR BACK FROM YOU?
We’ll acknowledge receipt of your application by email within 48 hours, if it’s received during normal working hours (Mon-Fri – 09:00-18:00 GMT). We will review and respond to your application within two working days. We do this in order of receipt and acceptance is not automatic.

CAN I RESERVE A PLACE?

WHAT ARE YOUR LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS?
The programme is taught in English, so a good working knowledge of the language is essential. If English is not your first language, we may ask you for evidence of your proficiency.
