Healthcare Cleaning Operative – Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship

About The Course

This apprenticeship teaches learnings to provide a hygienically clean healthcare environment in which service users, staff and other, users can thrive, work and develop.

Establishments this apprenticeship is suitable for:

  • Hospitals
  • Care homes where the operative uses a range of cleaning methods
  • Doctors/Dentist surgeries where the operative role includes the cleaning of service user equipment
  • Healthcare settings within prisons and schools where a range of cleaning methods are used and equipment used for providing a healthcare service is also cleaned
  • Large childcare settings where cleaning operatives are responsible for deep cleans and cleaning service user equipment such as children’s toys
  • Leisure facilities where the operate cleans areas, including the poolside and changing rooms
  • Large first aid facilities in establishments such as airports where the cleaning operative has a broad range of duties

During this apprenticeship, you will learn professional cleaning codes of practices and how to carry out cleaning operative tasks to an industry standard.

The Healthcare Science Assistant (HCSA) support workforce contributes to safe patient care across all care pathways from conception to end of life in job roles within hospitals, general practice, and other settings in the healthcare sector and across all areas of healthcare science (1).

HCSAs perform a range of low risk, routine technical and scientific procedures usually within one broad area of HCS, following specific protocols and in accordance with health, safety, governance and ethical requirements. HCSAs work using standard operating procedures, initially under direct supervision but increasingly with experience, under indirect supervision

You will need:

  • To be aged 16 or older
  • To be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week with 20% of your normal working hours set aside for you to complete your training and study
  • Apprentices will be required to have or achieve level 1 English and Maths and to have taken level 2 English and Maths tests prior to completion of their Apprenticeship.

Employers may also set additional entry requirements, as a prerequisite to working with them.

Apprenticeships are assessed by classroom study coursework and assessments along with on-the-job practicals.
On completion of this course, you can progress onto further study in this field or into a career in the health and social care sector.

WHEN SHOULD I APPLY?
We recommend you apply at least three months before the programme starts to guarantee your place. The application form will take approximately 15 to 30 minutes to complete.

WHEN WILL I HEAR BACK FROM YOU?
We’ll acknowledge receipt of your application by email within 48 hours, if it’s received during normal working hours (Mon-Fri – 09:00-18:00 GMT). We will review and respond to your application within two working days. We do this in order of receipt and acceptance is not automatic.

CAN I RESERVE A PLACE?

WHAT ARE YOUR LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS?
The programme is taught in English, so a good working knowledge of the language is essential. If English is not your first language, we may ask you for evidence of your proficiency.
