IT – Level 3 Certificate & Diploma

This course consists of two separate qualifications. In your first year of study, you will work towards the Extended Certificate. Following successful completion of this qualification, you will be able to progress to the Diploma – this will give you the equivalent UCAS points to studying 2 A Levels.

Topics covered include:

• information technology systems
• creating systems to manage information
• using social media in business
• programming

Optional topics can include:

• data modelling
• website development
• mobile apps development
• computer games development
• digital 2D and 3D graphics
• IT technology support and management 
• software testing
• digital animation and visual effects

The course is assessed in three forms: external, internal and synoptic. 

The below units are external assessment examinations and tasks:

• Examinations – Information Technology Systems
• Set Tasks (where you take an assessment during a defined window and demonstrate understanding through completion of a vocational task) – Creating Systems to Manage Information

Most of the other units are assessed internally through coursework tasks, such as:

• Writing up the findings of your own research
• Using case studies to explore complex or unfamiliar situations
• Carrying out projects (for which you have choice over the direction and outcomes)
• Demonstrating practical and technical skills using appropriate tools/processes etc.
