Painting and Decorating – Level 2 Diploma

About The Course

If you have already have some experience of painting and decorating skills and want to extend your learning, this is the course for you!

A diverse and satisfying trade in high demand, the job varies from applying paint, wallpaper and finishes to internal and external surfaces. Working in the trade, you could find yourself decorating brand new buildings, restoring and refurbishing existing properties, work for a contractor or start your own business!

The course allows you to learn, develop and pracitce the skills required as a painter and decorator.

Over the course of the year you will cover the following topics:

  • Health, safety and welfare in construction
  • Principles of building construction, information and communication
  • Preparing surfaces for decoration
  • Applying paint systems by brush and roller to complex areas
  • Applying standard papers to walls and ceilings
  • Producing specialist finishes for decorative work
  • Ereting and dismantling access equipment and working platforms
  • Creating and applying colour
You will need 5 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above, one of them must be English and/or Math.

You will be assessed through multiple choice tests, end of unit practical assessments and external exams through City and Guilds.

School Leavers

If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, it will be free. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. Adults

Entry Level, Level 1, Level 2
If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, your course may be free, depending on your circumstances. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. Once you have completed the course you can progress onto a Level 3 Painting and Decorating. Alternatively, you can go use the skills gained to start your own business.

WHEN SHOULD I APPLY?
We recommend you apply at least three months before the programme starts to guarantee your place. The application form will take approximately 15 to 30 minutes to complete.

WHEN WILL I HEAR BACK FROM YOU?
We’ll acknowledge receipt of your application by email within 48 hours, if it’s received during normal working hours (Mon-Fri – 09:00-18:00 GMT). We will review and respond to your application within two working days. We do this in order of receipt and acceptance is not automatic.

CAN I RESERVE A PLACE?

WHAT ARE YOUR LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS?
The programme is taught in English, so a good working knowledge of the language is essential. If English is not your first language, we may ask you for evidence of your proficiency.
