Skills for Learning Support Practitioners – Level 2 Award

About The Course

This qualification is for practitioners who wish to support learning in a wide range of contexts. This award can be taken alone and can be useful for those wishing to try out the role, and for others who have learning support as a small part of their wider work role. This award can also provide an important stepping stone for those in related volunteer roles. This qualification allows practitioners to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment in the learning support sector. This qualification is underpinned by the National Occupational Standards for Learning Support Staff.

You will be undertaking the unit in Preparing to Support Learning. This unit aims to develop the practitioner’s knowledge and understanding of contexts and practice relating to learning support and to enable the practitioner to evaluate and improve learning support practice. You will be able 1 to demonstrate awareness of the learning support within lifelong learning contexts: describe the importance of learning for achieving personal goals and participating in life, learning and work; identify different contexts for learning support practice; describe the contribution of learning support in the provision of lifelong learning opportunities; describe how to work with learners and others to support learning in a particular lifelong learning context; identify national and local policy and regulatory requirements related to learning support practice.2 identify values and principles which underpin learning support practice.3. demonstrate understanding of how to support learning.
All learning support practitioners should have or be developing personal English, mathematics and ICT skills at Level 2. All trainees will undergo an initial assessment of these skills on joining the programme. Trainees should take every opportunity to develop and practice the skills throughout the programme.
You will be continuously assessed throughout the course. Assessment is subject to external verification. Some of the methods of assessment include a case study project, written question and answer/test/exam, role play/simulation,essay, practical demonstration. Students must:have a completed portfolio of evidence for each unit or taken an assignment. Practitioners should be involved in at least one hour of micro learning support. Each practitioner must deliver at least one 15 minute micro learning support session which should be observed and assessed by a member of the delivery team. For the additional 45 minutes, practitioner scan either deliver additional micro learning support sessions or observe the micro learning support sessions of other practitioners.

If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, your course may be free, depending on your circumstances. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. This course will enhance your CPD and employment opportunities, as well as allowing you to progress onto further teaching courses such as Level 3 Award in Education and Training and Certificate/ Diploma in Education and Training.

WHEN SHOULD I APPLY?
We recommend you apply at least three months before the programme starts to guarantee your place. The application form will take approximately 15 to 30 minutes to complete.

WHEN WILL I HEAR BACK FROM YOU?
We’ll acknowledge receipt of your application by email within 48 hours, if it’s received during normal working hours (Mon-Fri – 09:00-18:00 GMT). We will review and respond to your application within two working days. We do this in order of receipt and acceptance is not automatic.

CAN I RESERVE A PLACE?

WHAT ARE YOUR LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS?
The programme is taught in English, so a good working knowledge of the language is essential. If English is not your first language, we may ask you for evidence of your proficiency.
